Playing a blackjack tournament is no different to playing any other tournament like poker for example. In that game then getting to act after your opponent is absolutely critical. Bluffs in poker carry far more weight when you have position. This is because if your opponent has checked then you already have a major clue that they are weak simply because they checked.

In blackjack then you can stand on inferior totals safe in the knowledge that you cannot lose out. Let us look at an example here to show you what I mean. There are $30,000 in chips in circulation with $1000 minimum bets. Your opponents both place $1000 bets and you are on the button and place a $1000 bet also.

The chip position is that you lead with $15k and the other two stacks have $10k and $5k. Now clearly you can just mirror the other two players here but look at this situation if they stand on 16 and 15 and you have 12. You can just stand also because you have seen them stand and even though their totals exceed yours, they cannot beat the dealer if the dealer makes a total.

So all three of you will either win or lose and neither of you can win or lose without the same happening to the others. This is the power of position in blackjack and it can make the difference between success and failure in the tournament and how you utilise position.
