In this new section I am going to do a review of the casino related gambling books that I have read down the years. Most of them have at the very least been highly entertaining.
In the opening review here I am going to start with the true blackjack classic,

1.  Professional Blackjack

Author:           Stanford Wong

Produced by:   Pi Yee Press

First Edition:    1975

Not many people realise that “Professional Blackjack” was first published as long ago as 1975 as it has had numerous reprintings since then including the 1994 version that I have. This was the second book on blackjack that I ever read after “Beat the Dealer” but this book more than any other has had perhaps the greatest impact on my life.

In fact this book more than any other has been labelled the “card counters bible” by some of the biggest names in the game. The entire text is simply a must read for anyone who wants to advance their knowledge of card counting. It is packed full of data that is also easy to understand for people who are not math orientated.

It focuses mainly on the high/low count which I believe is the best counting system on the market simply because it allows the player the time to do other strategies and allows greater longevity because of its ease of operation.

The book is packed full of simulations, statistics and charts and provides expected value for many types of situation that you will encounter. It also provides strategies for all different rules variations as well. This means that whatever you may encounter in your chosen casino, Professional Blackjack will have the correct strategy to help you.

Also you can count on the expertise and professionalism of Stanford Wong to enable the data in his book to be accurate and correct. This is even more so in the later editions. Stanford Wong is actually a pseudonym and his real name is John Ferguson. He came by the name when it was suggested to him by a friend on his PhD program and this name caught the public imagination.

He took the name Stanford from his “alma mater” and the name Wong was thought to be mysterious due to its connection with the Orient so we had Stanford Wong. But to recap, there are many blackjack books on the market which are rubbish, some which are mediocre and then there is Professional Blackjack…….I advise anyone to buy this book.

RATING :  10/10
