No 25: Blackjack Bluebook
Author: Fred Renzey
Published: 1996
Company: Spectrum Press
Fred Renzey has been one of the pivotal names in the history of blackjack over the past twenty years. Before this book came out and his subsequent follow up book, little was known about Renzey in the world of blackjack apart from a few people who followed the game closely.
Renzey has also played high-stakes poker as well so he is more than well versed in gambling theory and practice. The book is divided into three sections but is the third section that will be of the greatest interest to experienced players. It is in this section where the strategy is contained and this was my favourite section of the book by far.
I wouldn’t go as far as to say that Blackjack Blue Book is the greatest blackjack book that I have ever read but it is still a good book. I would certainly recommend the book even though there are other books that I would recommend first if the student only had a limited budget to spend on blackjack books.
I always feel that sometimes books are written by certain authors and things are articulated in a certain way that makes certain concepts stand out better. I have found this to be the case many times down the years and this is why I continue to recommend books.
It is always a good strategy to get as many different aspects and view points as possible as this not only leads to a broader and more rounded knowledge but it also means that you can eliminate harmful facts as well by cross referencing professional opinion.
RATING……… 7/10
