There are probably not many people who will have heard of this book but yet it tells the stories of how professional gamblers have beaten the casinos down the years.

The authors name is a pseudonym of a guy who is a respected financial consultant for a firm of sports accountants. Although I have always been a little confused as to why this guy has an alias when the list of things that he has done is freely available for all to read on the back of the book and these are things that can easily be tracked.

The book tracks the stories of some of the most feared and respected gamblers in their fields. People like poker player Johnny Moss are featured and also Nick “The Greek” Dandalos. What I think the book illustrates is how creativity and imagination are paramount in the life of professional gamblers.

The ability to work very hard almost without pause is something that is inherent amongst all professional gamblers. Digressing slightly, I feel that it is important here to address the psychological make up of a professional gambler.

We are looking at someone who is extremely driven and focused, someone who spends every minute of every waking day plotting and planning their bets and moves. They have exceptional attention to detail and the ability to be able to think and plan strategically and logically.

But also when it comes to putting large amounts of money at risk then this is what separates them from the rest. It simply isn’t possible to make a very good living from gambling without risking substantial amounts.

I suppose two exceptions could be an online poker player who was multi-tabling and a trader on the betting exchanges. But even then these people have to risk amounts of money that others would baulk at. This book will not make you any money…….but then again it might if it provides you with the determination to give pro gambling a go.
