Had a night put with a few friends last night and visited a casino after our meal same as last time. I started teaching two friends the rudiments of blackjack which they seemed to think was like pontoon but sounded better and cooler.

Anyway the place was full and I had to stand as there wasnt any seats. I didnt bother playing as the game had an automatic shuffler. I had been standing there for about ten minutes and was getting really bored. Its amazing how boring these games can be if you are not actually risking money.

Just then another table opened and I quickly took my seat at first base. This game also had an automatic shuffler but I was curious to see if this dealer was exposing cards as he pulled them. Firstly if dealers are careless enough to expose cards then this is their problem. Its the same with poker, if your opponent next to you is lax enough to expose his hand then thats his problem. You have absolutely no duty whatsoever to inform them, it is a battle to get each others money and thats it.

The same with casinos, if I had walked into this casino drunk and out of my mind without knowing much about what I was doing and had lost £1000, they sure as hell wouldnt have given it back simply because I didnt know what Iwas doing. If they dont want to deal properly or the inspectors are not watching properly then thats their problem.

The thing was that the inspector was stood between this table and another table so he couldnt detect if the dealer was accidentally exposing cards or not. I had been playing £5 per box for about twenty minutes and was up slightly when the dealer had 17 and he was just about to pull a card and stopped himself. The thing is that dealers pull so many cards that it becomes an almost involuntary reaction. I could make out that the next card was a picture, its very difficult to see aces as you cannot identify the whiteness of the cards adequately enough but pictures can be seen clearly sometimes.

I made a big thing about not being able to get my money back betting £5 per time and pulled £200 from my pocket and said “lets go out with a bang”……I bet £200 which was the maximum and stood up, the edge is somewhere around 12-13% which is huge. The expectation of course is that the long term EV doing this would be +£25 so I was hardly going to get rich. The queen of spades was my card and I wasnt happy to see the dealer also pull a picture to their own hand.

My next card was a very dissapointing eight giving me 18…..time to hope. Anyway they pull a nine for 19 and I am dead. I dont play much after that and leave about minus £300 for the night after a couple of losing wagers on roulette.

food was good though :-)

see you soon
