It is difficult to go into any casino these days without being able to play poker. Almost all casinos have card rooms these days and although they are not always used to play poker, they do tend to be in use for other types of card games like Kalooki for example. Tournament poker is staged by casinos as a rule to get people into the club in the hope that they play the table games. But the problem for most casinos that run poker tournaments is that your average poker player has no interest whatsoever in table games like roulette, baccarat and blackjack.

So they tend not to bring an awful lot of revenue into the club. Then when you factor in the extra wages involved in providing staff to run poker tournaments then it is no surprise that many casino managers and even owners do not like the average poker player. To be honest I can hardly blame them, I haven’t played poker inside a live casino since 2003 when I had a heated argument with a card room supervisor about locals violating the English only rule at the table while hands were in progress.

There has been a big surge to play poker tournaments these days because of the amount of poker on television. This has led to events like the WSOP attracting record fields even during a recession. So poker is definitely here to stay and I for one am glad of that because I play an awful lot of online poker and so I depend on this for a large part of my living.
