One of the big key areas of modern online poker at the moment is coaching. However I think that this is where the overwhelming majority of coaches and the people who look to be coached get this area wrong. In my opinion then the coach and the pupil have to be in harmony and unison in numerous areas. Firstly the risk profile of the coach has to be similar to the pupil otherwise there will be problems. Also the style that the coach has must fit the personality profile of the pupil.

Then we look at areas like external resources because if the coach has many of these in place in a far larger and more sophisticated business model then he will not necessarily be able to pass that on to the pupil. Also the coach needs to take the pupil on at just the right time in the evolutionary process of the pupil. There is an old saying that goes “when the student is ready, the teacher arrives”. This is a problem with coaching because many coaches take on their students at the wrong stage in their learning and the information that the coach tries to impart is lost.

This process can clearly be observed with reading poker books. When the author writes the book then he has no control over just who buys it. The vast majority of people who purchase books often find that the book is either too simplistic for their level of knowledge or it is far too advanced.
