These days there have never been so many opportunities to make money playing online poker. However I also think that with it come certain problems as well because the sheer volume of action means that players can sometimes believe in their own mind that value is out there. The average poker player now is far more educated than they have ever been. If you do not work on your game at all and do not strive to educate yourself then how can you possibly elevate yourself above average?
It is a bit like a high jumper…..if you wanted to qualify for the school team at high jumping and the average height that was being cleared by each athlete was 4ft then it is clear that you would never make the team if all you could manage was 4ft. So you need to be better than average. However this isn’t quite so clear cut in poker because you can be a distinctly average poker player and still be able to make money……how is this so?
Well it is because the players outside the box so to speak look to make money outside of actually playing the game itself. They make money aggressively by way of rakeback and sign up bonuses……frequent player points and free rolls. These all need to be taken advantage of when you play online poker for profit. Imagine a player who could avail themselves of being able to play a $5000 freeroll event every two weeks and after eight months picked up $1000. This could be the difference between being ahead and losing at the end of the year.
