This is because it can allow you to not only make good money from the game but to also be able to play the game for a living. The reasons behind why this is so are to do with the fact that multi-tabling allows you to be able to play lower down the pecking order while avoiding stronger players.
To be able to do this means that you need to get the fundamentals right. Once these are in place then you are good to go so to speak. Using game theory as an example here and it is clear that in order to maximise your chances of success against weaker players then doing fancy things simply isn’t necessary. As a rule then fancy play can come with increased risk. This is the case with games like poker, backgammon and it certainly applies to chess. I was a very keen chess player years ago but I often lost games because I was trying to beat a weaker player fancily. I thought that I somehow had to show my superior ability and beat them in a certain way.
This is wrong of course and you do not get extra marks in chess for style. There is only one thing that matters and that is the result. Weak players will commit blunders sooner or later and you just need to give them enough rope to blunder and they will. There is often a type of restless energy in poker players and chess players for that matter that means that they often cannot keep the tension in the situation. This means that sooner or later for whatever reason (usually an emotional one) then they blunder and make a mistake.
There is literally no need for creative play and in fact in chess then why would you ever want to sacrifice material for some vague advantage that was difficult to measure when you knew that your opponent would likely blunder material away later on in the game? There would be no need to do this but in poker then those advantages are difficult to see because they may only become visible after a much longer amount of time.
