The overwhelming number of poker players are not cut out to be great players….it is simply the way of things. When we look at the famous bell curve distribution model then it becomes very instructive. This is a dispersal distribution model that shows us where the majority of people are in any given field. So when it comes to poker styles then loose-aggressive is very much in vogue at the moment. This is probably because of the onslaught of six handed games online which sort of demand a more aggressive style of play.
However you can still be tight in a six handed game, it is just that playing tightly in that setting means playing more hands than a tight player would in full ring. If you used the bell curve model to assess all players who assume a LAG style then it is clear that a very large percentage would play the style badly. If you lack the necessary skills to play this way then you are simply better off playing far fewer hands. You do not always have the option to do this in six handed play but you do get the opportunity to do this in full ring games.
Most players would be better off sticking to card dependent strategies because left to their own devices then the average player base simply cannot be trusted to make good poker decisions that are superior to fixed strategies. It is a sad but true fact but do not despair. There is enough bad play at the lower levels to mean that simply playing far fewer hands can lead to great profits. Folding can be a very powerful weapon in poker but people simply do not utilise this weapon often enough.
