Around three years ago I set out to turn $1000 into $100,000 playing online poker. This is not as difficult as it sounds and in fact was so easy that it became boring and I stopped the challenge at $14,000. The problem with doing a challenge like this is that if you are already a winning cash game player then once you get to a certain amount then the rest is automatic. Let us say that you can make $25/hr playing NL50. If you start at $1000 then straight away you are making $1000/week if you play 40 hours per week.

This means that you will reach your 100k target in 2 years which hardly seems like a challenge at all. This is like being in a $50k per year job and making it your goal to earn $100k in two years……that isn’t a challenge when all you have to do is turn up for work every day. However what it does highlight is in how if you establish a poker plan then you can achieve great things. If you are not a winning poker player then I believe that making $25/hour isn’t rocket science.

If you can reach a good solid ABC style and playing at the $10 and $20 levels then you should find enough weak fish at these levels to provide you with an earn rate as long as you multi-table. This is far simpler than what it sounds when you play full ring. So you if you want to make $100k playing online poker then you have two clear goals. The first goal is to make yourself good enough and play relatively low stakes games. The second goal is then to record enough volume and put the hours in……..it’s that simple!
