I often hear from many people how poker books are very dated when it comes to learning the game. I think this is not only wrong but it is very misleading when it comes to people being able to learn the game as well. Poker has gone through an evolutionary period and so the books that were written and printed prior to this revolution are more of less out of date in large quantities.

But this in no way implies that poker books are bad. Can you imagine if coaching videos had been produced 15-20 years ago by the very same people who were writing the books? Clearly these videos would be as dated as the books because the game has moved on.
The proper answer to all of this is that it depends on who writes the books and who makes the videos. One has to remember that people like Cole South has written books although that was an e-book and not one player in the world doubts his ability or knowledge. The modern books are becoming far superior to the older books or at least the best ones are.

This is because many of these books are being written by top class players who have evolved in the modern era and by modern I am referring to the past four or five years. So in my opinion then the modern books are of a very high quality if you get the right books. Do not be so quick to get your education from videos over books because I have seen some pretty useless videos in my time.
