Players cheat…….or at least some players cheat…..it’s a fact. Many others would like to cheat but don’t have the nerve to do it or they have cheated once and got caught and lost their nerve to try again. In the USA where there are many more hand held games and no fixed inspectors like in England then the opportunity to cheat can be higher.
One of the reasons why blackjack players are often despised by pit bosses isn’t always to do with the fact that they win money. There are other reasons behind it and when you think about this for a minute then they are logical. When you gamble for a living then the reasons behind this are numerous but one of the main ones is that the individual likes the thought of not working in a conventional job and the thought of ever going back to one is unpalatable.
So we now have a situation where a player is making money and all seems well. Except that this is a living that does not come with the advantages that stems from working in a conventional job. Firstly there can be no pay rises unless you play for higher stakes but playing for higher stakes will get you noticed and bigger wins will get you barred. There is also no sick pay or holiday paid leave and no pension.
Inflation will start to erode your earnings over time but yet the desire not to go back to a conventional job is always there. So many resort to cheating and working in collusion with dealers. Some dealers can be corrupted and some punters do try and corrupt them but if your personal values are non existent before you went into gaming then you are surely not going to acquire any when you are working as a dealer. The bottom line is that corrupt people get jobs in all industries and gaming is no different……..do all blackjack players eventually turn into cheats…….certainly not……but many do.
