If you thought that blackjack cons and cons in general were a thing of the past then you had better think again. As recently as 2008, a punter named Seyit Ibrahim Yel (alias Mustapha Seda) conned the Bellagio into loaning him large amounts of money so that he could play high-stakes blackjack.

The con was basically triggered by how this guy sold himself as a rich businessman. Yel borrowed nearly $500,000 in loans from various casinos and cashed out his winnings but was never seen again until he was later arrested on an unrelated incident and this was when the connection with his casino debts was found.

The process in the States is that you are given marker loans and you should not be able to walk out with any winnings but Yel managed to transfer large amounts of chips o to accomplices who in turn cashed them out. If you are wondering why the police let him go, it was to do with the fact that the lawsuit was in the name of his alias and not in his real name and so the judge granted him bail and he has never been seen since.

In a way, this was a con that was waiting to happen although most land based casinos especially in England do not offer credit facilities. If you can get the right individual with the right image then there are obvious flaws in the casino security systems that can be exploited in some areas of the world. Not that I condone cheating or fraud in any way but you have to admire the nerve of these people at times.
