I have sometimes been asked why I write so much about cheating in casinos. Well it is basically because I know so much about it having spent many years working inside them. One of the classic cheating moves comes in the diversionary tactic on roulette. The best cheats know that diversionary tactics are best done on the table that you don’t intend to cheat on.

Nearly all croupiers and inspectors expect a diversionary tactic on the same table. This is usually made by past posters. But experienced casino staff are wise to the move but the best move is for a team accomplice to make a diversion somewhere else. The timing is crucial and it does not even have to be a diversion that is anything to do with playing roulette.

A player could knock a drink over on a table or clap their hands loudly when someone else wins. These noises and events cause an instant reaction on behalf of other casino staff and it is only natural to want to look at what made the noise. Another tactic that is done alongside this is to steal chips from other players.

The dealer tends to be looking after his layout and for late bets. But yet as long as a bet isn’t late or there are no suspicious moves then the staff are at ease. The players themselves do not expect other players to steal from them but they are far easier targets and the casino staff do not look for this as they only tend to look out for their own money.

If a punter was playing in £25 chips and was playing lots of them then it wouldn’t be difficult to steal a couple of them per hour on a busy game.
