Tripping the ball is a roulette move that sees the Inspector or a player place their finger over the rim of the wheel to stop the ball in mid spin and allow it to drop into a certain section of the wheel. I have actually known Inspector’s do this and have heard of other cases simply to allow a dealer to control the game better so that it didn’t get out of hand.
This is very rare though but it is not quite as rare with the actual players themselves. It is usually performed by cheats with one team member backing a certain section of the wheel while the other team member distracts the dealer and/or Inspector and trips the ball. The key here is to wait until the ball had lost almost all of its momentum otherwise the move would be too obvious as stopping a speeding roulette ball would stand out a mile.
Even then, this move takes some nerve as if the game has other punters on it then the average punter looks in the wheel anyway as it can have an almost hypnotic effect. So even in this instance, as cheating moves go on roulette then I would say that ball tripping is the least effective and for the simple reason being that the move is just too blatant.
While it is possible to get away with this once or twice, to do so on consecutive instances and also when casinos have CCTV does not make this move a “career” for would be cheats. While I would never recommend ANY cheating move to anyone for obvious reasons, attempting the ball tripping move is really asking for trouble.
