These weekend casino trips are starting to become somewhat of a regular occurence. Off we went again last night and this time I was going to try and read the dealers spin. This is hard enough at the best of times but seeing as I hadnt done this for years then this was going to be even harder.
We arrived at around 8.00 and intended to stay until about 11pm as my partner and her friend had to be up for work the next morning. They were in the lounge area drinking coffee and there were three American Roulette tables that were conventional tables, by that I mean not these horrible electronic roulette tables. Maybe I am old fashioned but I prefer the human element to it all and the feel of chips in your hand.
Two of the tables had really fast wheels and even if I could have read the spin, the amount of bounce after the ball dropped would have forbid me from getting any kind of edge. But this dealer seemed more concerned with just dealing the game than anything else and the inspector didnt seem to care either.
Within about ten to fifteen minutes of watching him, I was starting to get a feel for not only where the ball was going to leave the ball track but where the rotor would be. Maybe all this stuff was still buried in my sub-conscious. Everytime this guy spun the ball at a particular speed, he moved it around the wheel exactly by about 12 numbers or one third.
Strangely enough, the English version of roulette is a hybrid of the American version but it has the French wheel with a French number sequence. Straight away I knew that this ball was landing in TIER which is a number section that goes from 27 to 33 and includes 12 numbers.
He hit number 5 which is a bullseye…….that was it and my mind was made up. I changed £100 for £5 chips and sat there waiting for the next spin. Just at that stage the inspector reached into the wheel and speeded it up……cute…..very cute…..either that was a coincidence or he suspected that I had been following the spin.
I placed a couple of losing £5 chips on red when it came up black just for cover and then wandered off around the casino knowing that the opportunity had passed……oh well….still a good night though
see you soon
Carl
