Gov. Ted Strickland has been pushing for a plan that would bring in full-scale casinos to Ohio. This plan would bring in a lot of money for the casinos and possibly even help get the casinos get up and going again.

Part of the casino plan that Gov. Ted Strickland is pushing for is a 33 percent tax taken in by four casinos that are located in the cities of Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Toledo. He goes into great details at how each state would get their shares. Ohio would get a staggering $50 million as a one-time licensing fee for every location.

This new plan is causing a lot of debate and stir from the churches in Ohio. As a matter of fact, the Ohio Council of Churches has come together and formed a vow to fight against this. They do not want the casino gambling to go on in their state. The casinos and churches always share and express different viewpoints about this. Many churches believe that it is a sin to gamble and condemn the thought of gambling. The ones who gamble don’t think of it that way because of the money that they are winning.  They claim that many people don’t have the funds to gamble and would be risking a lot more than they would win. The pros know that if you are serious with winning in the casino that it takes a lot of time and practice. If you stick with it, you will get your payday in the end. It’s a lot about luck, though. A lot of churches have a hard time understanding why people would want to throw away so much of their money in order just to win a little bit back. The reason is simple. For example, if you put in $5 and win a jackpot of $10,000, you would be rich. Sometimes it could take lots of five dollar bills to get that jackpot but other times it just takes one. It all depends on the luck you have because you could become rich quick, but it’s still possible that you will not.

For many decades the church has fought against gambling and has tried very hard to stop it. They will continue standing very strong on their belief. A lot of church goers are really concerned about the young generations who go into the casinos, gamble and lose all of their school money among other things. However, it is up to each person to gamble with wisdom. They know about the risks they take and many church goers forget that and just want to slander gambling.

The fighting will continue going on but it all boils down to this. The casinos have been around for hundreds of years just like the church. Neither one of them will be closing their doors down anytime soon for that reason. The church and the casino are both enriched with history. The church opens its doors and welcomes new members in just like the casino opens its doors and welcomes new members in. The church teaches the new members and they might or might not grow while the casino teaches the new members and they might or might not make it.

The church has supporters who are trying to get enough signatures to stop the casinos from opening. If this happens, Governor Strickland will be expressing how he feels about the situation and he will continue sticking behind his belief.
