DEALER:
This is simply another name for a Croupier and is a term more commonly used in England and the USA.

DOUZAINE:
A French term meaning “dozen” or in this case a bet that covers one of the dozens on the layout.

DOLLY:
This is another term often used in English casinos for the number marker that is used to highlight the winning number. It also acts as a stopper for anyone looking to place late bets on the number after the ball has dropped.

DOUBLE ZERO WHEEL:
This is a type of roulette wheel that has two zeroes and not one thus increasing the house edge. The single zero wheel has 37 numbers while the double zero wheel has 38.

DOZEN BETS:
These are bets that are placed on a set of twelve numbers moving down the layout. The first twelve numbers 1-12 are called first dozen, the second twelve 13-24 are called second dozen and 25-36 are called third dozen. This are not to be confused with column bets even though column bets still back on twelve numbers.

DROP BOX:
This is a steel cash box situated underneath the table that holds all of the cash that is passed across to the dealer. Usually these boxes are emptied at the end of the shift but in casinos that are open 24hrs then that can be at other certain times of the day.

I once worked inside a casino where the managers had to empty the drop boxes in mid-shift because of the fact that the cashier had run out of money.

In the next part of the glossary I will be looking at the letter “E”.
