I guess that I had better describe the rules of roulette for some of you. There are slight variations in the game depending on where in the world you are playing. Some wheels have 38 numbers for instance while in Europe we tend to have 37. This is numbers 1-36 plus zero. In the USA, they have double zero wheels with numbers 1-36, zero and double zero. The zero numbers are the house edge along with the pay offs. Let us use the European 37 number wheel as an example.

There are 37 numbers but if you bet a chip on the number then you dont get paid 36-1 but 35-1. There are an assortment of bets that you can place. For instance, you dont have to bet exactly on the numbers but can place your bets on the dividing lines between the numbers. So you could place you chips on the dividing line between 17 and 20 for instance. This means that you will win if either 17 or 20 comes but instead of being paid 35/1, you now get paid 17/1.

But do notice that 2 chips on the dividing line (called a “split”) returns exactly the same as 1 chip on the number of each. For example, 1 chip on 17 would return 36 chips……35 winning chips plus your bet back. Two chips on the split would still return 36 chips….2 x 17 chips plus the two chips back.

You can also bet on the corners as well, so you can place your chips on the corners. If you look at a layout, you could say place your bets on the corner intersection that covers the numbers 8,9, 11 and 12. This pays 8/1, putting four chips on the section is faster than placing one chip on the four numbers. You can also place chips on zero itself. But if you want a more realistic chance of getting a winner then betting on the even chances may appeal to you.

You can bet red or black, odds or evens, high or low and these bets if they win pay even money. If the zero arrives then you lose half of your wager and get the other half back, once again this is the house edge. You also have the option to bet on dozens as well and can back the first 12 numbers 1-12, second dozen 13-24 and third dozen 25-36, these bets pay 2-1. You can do a similar thing on the columns at the end of the table and these bets also pay 2-1 should they come up.

There is really too much scope to explain the rules of roulette in one post but I will look to expand on this more tomorrow.

so see you then and take care
