One of the hardest things for novice card counters is to count quickly enough so that they do not get into time pressure. This skill can be akin to an online poker player who is multi-tabling. A skilled multi-tabler will always be on top of the game while someone with less experience will start missing decisions and timing out.

There are some techniques that can short cut the process of counting and one such technique is to cancel hands. So if you are using the high-low method then if you see a hand that contains two nines and you stand, two nines equates to zero so you can simply skip the hand.

If the running count is +5 and there are three hands on the table that are 6-6, T-T and 6,T then you should see with no more than a seconds thought that the count is still +5 after these three hands have been counted. The two low sixes are cancelled out by the two high tens next to it and the box with a six and a ten value card also cancel each other out.

When you become good at cancelling then your speed will increase. This will lead to less counting errors, less fatigue and greater profit. Another massive advantage of using the high-low count and cancellation systems is that it allows you to be so fast that it creates time to do other things at the table.

This means interacting with the staff to look less like a counter and shuffle tracking although this is a very difficult skill to execute.
