All experienced or knowledgeable card counters know about count per deck strategies but one of the things that influence how you enter a blackjack shoe is your own attitude to risk. I will explain why this is now and the casino starts out with an edge of 0.5%. This differs based on the true count and not the running count. The edge shifts by 0.5% for every true count movement of one. So if the true count becomes +1 then this means that the player is now playing even with the house.

When the true count reaches +2 then the player has the edge of 0.5%. This means that they will win 50.25% to the houses 49.75% which only a shade better than even money proposition. The swings to your bankroll taking such slender edges will be huge. This is why many players who play the game take larger edges that come along less frequently. I know or have heard of many players who only came in at true counts of +2 or even +3. The professionals would never do this as they fully understand that in order to really make the game pay then they must take every small edge that comes their way.

Often a counter may see nothing but tiny edges for the entire session and sacrificing these would basically mean throwing money away. The professionals tend to have large bankrolls and are more able to take the swings that coming in at a true count of +1 and +2 will throw at you.
