Getting heat inside a casino is never a pleasant experience although it is obviously far worse in the States. Luckily for me I have always been good at spotting unwanted attention pretty quickly mainly due to long years in gaming.
Even then though you cannot always control what other people are going to do. The problem with small casinos is that they get very nervous about what to them seem like large sums of money.
The natural answer of course would be to play somewhere else or to play for lower amounts. Both of these have problems, firstly in the UK there are not that many casinos that can take substantial action without it being a threat to their weekly result outside of London.
Also playing for lesser amounts of money is a problem when you are playing as a team as this obviously reduces the income. So either way you have problems and the first time I ever received attention was inside a casino in the midlands when I became greedy and ramped my bets up too far from the minimum.
The thing is that even though the majority of casino staff are ignorant to advanced blackjack, this still does not stop them from sensing when something isn’t quite right. I went from £5 to the £200 table maximum once and even though I was putting on an act by looking like I was gambling, it still didn’t stop the casino manager from coming across and watching the table.
I knew why and I had even been placing cover bets on even money roulette as well but it still made no difference. It also wasn’t because I was winning money either because I was about even at that time. So I did just what the manager never expected me to do…..I actually engaged her in conversation.
I asked her advice on a certain hand and after that it was shuffling time as it was the end of the shoe so I made polite conversation with her. If she was attempting to make me nervous then she had obviously failed. But that one conversation allowed me to go back inside that club several times more.
