As a professional or even semi-professional blackjack player then the seat that you take on a blackjack table is very important. If you are a conventional card counter then the first and third bases are the best seats to have. In general parlance then this means the first and last betting boxes. The final betting box has always been deemed the classic counter seat because the player has access to seeing more cards from that seat. This gives the player an advantage in so much that he can make better strategy decisions after having seen more cards.
But yet if you are using other tactics then other boxes become more effective but this goes beyond conventional card counting. Often you do not have the choice of where you can sit at a blackjack table and so you must take your seat or the seat that is given. If you sit at the first seat then this is the perfect seat to be able to spot a dealer that was exposing cards as they dealt them from the shoe. Most of the time this isn’t possible but with some careless dealers then it can be.
You can even use the fact that the table is full to your advantage as well and utilise what is called “back counting” tactics. It would seem very odd to casino staff that a player that was stood behind the table not betting and who then bet when there were seats available at the table was possibly doing something out of line. Back counting allows the player not to have to sit there and bet table minimums in minus counts and they only step in during plus counts. But having a table that was full would provide the perfect excuse not to sit down and no one would know that you had been counting until you placed your first bet.
