It is important as a blackjack professional that you give the illusion of action in all situations. What you absolutely cannot do is bet table minimums for a while only to then increase your bets in positive counts. This is basically asking for trouble and even casinos whose staff knows little about card counting would suspect something was amiss here. So it is imperative that you give the illusion of action and to do this requires a larger bankroll.

It means that you need to start betting bigger in neutral counts. You need to do this as a prelude to ramping your bet on larger positive counts but also to give the illusion of action. This is why shuffle tracking is so good if you can master the art. This means that you would be betting big off the top of the shoe in some situations which helps to add to your cover. Back counting gets away from having to play through negatives and neutral counts but isn’t always feasible.

Most casinos in the States do not allow mid-shoe entry and so back counting is a tactic that does not work. If you can find games without automatic shufflers and who allow mid-shoe entry then you can still get away with this tactic. It is good on busy games where there is a lot going off but if only one player is at the table or two or three then there is little excuse for not sitting down to play.
