I always felt looking back at my time playing blackjack that the most difficult discipline was not to play in bad situations. Unfortunately this was something that I failed to execute in far too many occasions. Travelling to a casino with a journey that could have taken over an hour and then walking up to a blackjack table that is packed to the rafters and only dealing forty hands an hour and having the discipline to walk away and go home is very tough.

You feel that you don’t want to waste your time and you look for opportunities. So you start counting and even though you find profitable situations, they don’t come often enough as the game is too full. The dealer may be inexperienced and this will lead to the game slowing even more.

Casino pit bosses have a tendency to want to put trainee dealers onto blackjack games because they are easier for them than roulette and especially busy roulette games. Then if they happen to be also dealing half a shoe or two thirds of the shoe with poor penetration then you are basically wasting your time.

It is for this reason that you are better off playing at casinos that have other casinos near them. In Las Vegas or Atlantic City then this isn’t a problem but in the UK and other countries it is.

At least if there are three casinos within a few miles of each other then you can simply walk out and get in your car and go and play somewhere else. Blackjack players will live and die by their game selection policies and even though you will still earn money, your hourly rate will only be a fraction of what it should be and your time would be better spent somewhere else.
