Strictly speaking I have been both a professional blackjack player and a professional poker player in the past so I can see the downsides of playing both full-time. People get seduced by the thought of doing something for a living but do not realise what that “living” entails.

If you want to play poker online for a living then first of all you are going to be sat down in front of a computer screen for at least forty hours a week. The overwhelming number of players will earn their money by grinding and grinding is simply that…..a grind!

But playing full-time at blackjack is a hundred times more difficult. If you are spotted then its game over and your details will certainly be passed around. But in order not to be spotted you are going to have to do certain things that make you look like a normal everyday gambler type.

Much of this will involve jumping in and out of the games and every time that you are “out” then obviously you are not playing. Take it from me, playing more than 20 hours a week for meaningful stakes especially in England is not only difficult but it can also get to be soul destroying.

Travelling to casinos and then losing money day after day gets to you. In both poker and blackjack it is better to play part-time and keep your normal job. I know that many people hate their job and would love to be able to tell their boss where to put that job but you still have options other than playing poker or blackjack full-time.

You could play either of them part-time and then fill in with another part-time job that makes you far happier. At least then you can fall back on your guaranteed part-time income when you run bad…..which you will. But jacking in a career to do both…..well that is a very serious step and not one that I would advise.
