Whenever you are in a casino with more than one blackjack table in operation then sitting at one table always leaves you as an individual counter feeling that you may be missing a hugely advantageous situation on the other table. However you can go a long way towards nullifying that effect by using the power of cards unseen. Let us say that you were playing inside a casino with two active tables and you were playing on one table but the count went to -16 mid way through the shoe. Now in my experience as a counter then the chances of any meaningful advantage being seen in the remainder of the shoe will be rare.
In fact the only advantages will lay behind the cutting card most of the time. So not only are you playing on in a –EV situation but you could also be missing a hugely +EV situation on the other table! However when you look across then you often see that the dealer has already dealt two decks from a four deck shoe. Now in days of old it was seen as a waste of time to go and count that table. But these days we understand about cards unseen balancing each other out. You could easily go into a situation and start your count at zero when it was actually -10.
So if the count went to +5 and you placed bets then the real count would still be -5. But what exactly is the real count here? Because if you play for long enough and see enough hands then all those counts will even out because there is nothing to stop the count from actually being zero or even positive for that matter. So this means that you can skip across to the other table mid shoe and start your count from zero and your true count from the two deck stage and not have to worry about long term results.
