Blackjack hustling is an art form but when done well is going to add significantly to your bottom line. What you have to remember is that as a basic strategy player then you are only at a .5% disadvantage to the house. But many dealers in anticipation of having to deal a card to a certain box begin the process of pulling the next card before actual confirmation from the player. Like if the dealer has 10 for example and the player has 13…..they just expect the player to hit which of course basic strategy says that you should. Now in team play then this can be exploited and I have seen this personally done several times.
When the dealer pulls a card or begins to pull a card then this is often exposed to first base man. If he is part of a two man team and is betting say $200 then this brings up potential opportunities. Let us say that the $200 box has 19 and stands. Meanwhile his accomplice on the final box has 13. The dealer expects the player to take a card and so begins the process of pulling but in doing so reveals the card ever so slightly to the player on first base.
Picture cards are easy to identify because they are dark and if this is the case then the player simply gets a signal from first base to hit and they do so and bust their minimum bet hand and deny the dealer a chance to make 20. But if there is plenty of “air” on the card meaning whiteness then the player at first base knows that in all likelihood that the card is an ace through nine and only the ace beats him and so he instructs the third base to stand. Any card that is deuce through six is going to leave the dealer with a total that he is likely to bust from and seven and eight record an instant win while a nine leaves the big bet with a stand-off.
