I always remember the night clearly when I first became aware that a dealer could control a roulette ball. I had previously heard some dealers discuss it and there were two in particular who were very good at it and I tried to copy what they were doing.
They seemed to always have their wheels going at a relatively slow speed and this at the time was unknown to me as to the reason why. Obviously now looking back, when the rotor speed is slow then the amount of travelling that the ball does once it falls from the ball track is less and also the severity of the interaction between the ball and the metal deflectors is less.
What all this means of course is that the ball tends to stay within a certain sector once it falls from the ball track. This means that if you are encountering heavy action on a certain part of the wheel that it is possible to spin away from that sector. One may argue that if this were possible then it would be cheating.
Well firstly it didn’t always work out like this anyway. I was not a career minded croupier and after I was passed up for promotion on several occasions then this just made it worse. Winning croupiers were left on games far longer and when you don’t get paid any more money for working harder then where is the incentive?
So I frequently aimed for big payouts on purpose just to increase my chances of having more breaks. When all you had was a low volume game with low denomination chips then this wasn’t always possible or when you were on blackjack.
So from my perspective, me aiming for sections certainly didn’t cost the punters anything.
See you soon
Carl
